Kurai with MbiraKurai Blessing Mubalwa was born in 1976 in the village of Mutimbanyoka, in the Murewa district of Zimbabwe.  He took exceptional interest in the mbira and began learning to play at the age of six, watching while his father, uncles, and other village elders played it in traditional ceremonies.  In addition to playing the mbira, he soon began singing, dancing, and playing drums in these traditional ceremonies and other village gatherings.
